Trust deficit

01 March 2015 Written by

Is there a trust deficit? what, why, how, where……….if so, how to prevent ( over and above solving ) it?

A few quotes by Albert E. for reflection:

  • “If I had an hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.”
  • “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
  • “Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them”

I recall vividly the narration by Jack Cohen / Ian Stewart in their work on Discovering simplicity in a complex world, the behaviour of interactive systems: [ when the wheel was first invented, it took …years to iron out the bugs. The wheels … made were square, and the customers complained about the bumpy ride. ….the best customer came to the workshop, and the mechanic proudly displayed his newest invention. It is called “rolleasy”. The customer stared at the new wheel with some puzzlement and said “But it is triangular … how can that be an improvement?”. The mechanic expostulated ”Don’t you see? One less bump .“ ]

When addressing problem, we may like to do some reality-check from time to time: are we heading the right direction?
